The Young Women's Leadership School of Astoria (TYWLS of Astoria) is a single sex New York City public school that was established in 2006 with about 80 students through the YWL network. TYWLS of Astoria is part of an establshment that nurtures the intellectual curiousity and creativity of young women by supporting the 'whole girl' in order to maximize acedemic achievement, social emotional well-being, and postsecondary success. The school approaches learning in a dynamic, participatory fashion, encouraging students to take responsibility for their own learning. We are a college bound initiative (CBI) school that holds middle and high school students. Our first graduating class was in 2013. We take great pride in the rigor of our curriculum, the quality of our instruction, and the performance of our students. TYWLS strives to instill in students a sense of self-efficacy and community responsibility, characteristics which will support them as they become the leaders of the next generation.
